Level 3 Playground Safety Inspections and Surface Impact Testing

Xyst was engaged by Ōtorohanga District Council to undertake Level 3 playground safety inspections and surface impact testing across playgrounds in Ōtorohanga, Kawhia, and Aotea.

Inspections were carried out in accordance with NZS 5828:2015 and EN 1177:2018 to ensure the safety of Council’s playground equipment and surfacing.

Our inspections included detailed assessments of all playground equipment, identifying wear, damage, entrapments, potential hazards, and actionable recommendations. Surface impact testing was also conducted, using a HIC Meter to verify surfacing compliance with critical fall height requirements.

Results from our inspections were presented to Council in both reports and a spreadsheet. Actions and recommendations were also ordered, based on their risk scores, to assist with the prioritisation of repairs and renewals.

Project Benefit

Our independent playground safety inspections were carried out in accordance with NZS 5828:2015, and provide clear, unbiased reporting, helping Ōtorohanga District Council’s asset team make informed decisions about the safety of their public playground equipment and surfacing.
